Yes, the beach days of summer are here. Before we rush off to the beach we usually drop by our local drug store and purchase some sunscreen. But even before doing that please check out the latest edition of the Environmental Working Group’s Sunscreen Guide. It is an analysis of no less than 1700 sun protection products that provides a rating based on the the efficacy of the product and the toxicity of the
ingredients used. In short, the EWG did what the FDA has failed to do, and that is offer consumers some useful guidance on sunscreen safety. Here is a link to the full listing:

Below are some tips that may help you make a safe choice.
1. Buy sunscreen products that contain minerals like zinc or titanium.
2. Stay away from sunscreens containing retinyl palmitate or vitamin A.
3. Stay away from sunscreens containing oxybenzone.
